While speaking at the Santa Barbara Film Festival, ‘Emilia Pérez’ star Selena Gomez addressed the controversy surrounding the Oscar-nominated film.  Lead actress Karla Sofía Gascón has faced significant backlash after controversial tweets about her views on Muslims, George Floyd and diversity at awards shows recently resurfaced online.  Gomez admitted that while “some of the magic has disappeared,” she is still “proud” of her work on the film and “grateful” for the experience.  “I live with no regrets, and I would do this movie over and over again if I could,” said the Rare Beauty founder.  ‘Emilia Pérez’ has received 13 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Gascón, who has also made history as the first transgender woman nominated in the category. The controversy led Netflix to distance itself from the actress by withdrawing financial support for her awards campaign.  Gomez's co-star Zoe Saldaña and director Jacques Audiard have also expressed disappointment with Gascón's actions.
