Politics - Texas Accuses Doctor Of Violating Gender-Affirming Care Ban | Revry
2 min No genre TV-14Texas has sued Dallas physician Dr. May Lau, accusing her of providing gender-affirming care to minors. The lawsuit, announced by Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, alleges that Dr.Lau provided hormones to over 20 minors in violation of a Texas ban that took effect last year. The ban, signed into Texas law by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, prevents transgender people under 18 from accessing hormone therapies, puberty blockers, and transition surgeries. Dr. Lau is accused of falsifying medical records, prescriptions, and billing to misrepresent testosterone prescriptions as unrelated to gender transitioning or affirming a child's gender identity. Bans on gender-affirming medical care for minors have been adopted by at least 26 states, and are primarily driven by Republicans. This is one of the first times that a state has sought to enforce the ban. Paxton is asking the court for an injunction against Lau and for her to be fined as much as $10,000 per violation.
